Compassion With Our Sandy Hook Elementary School Brethren

There are no words that do justice at this critical time of such horrific loss. (See Gretchin Rubin’s post here.) There is no rhyme, reason, rationale, logic, or answer to a senseless and horrendous act of violence towards our most innocent and vulnerable human beings.

We must feel with our fellow brethren, pray with them and extend our listening and empathic hearts and souls to all who grieve.

Compassion, empathy and deep listening are the soft tissues that gently wipe the running faucet of tears; only until the next gush comes pouring out again. This is how the heart relieves itself of its most gruesome burden of sorrow. We must provide these tissues of support over and over again for our mourners. Grief takes on a repetitive mode and we must support with a patient and tolerant capacity for holding the pain of another.

We don’t heal in isolation, but in community.” S. Kelley Harrell, Gift of the Dreamtime – Reader’s Companion

The antidote to evil and sickness is goodness and health. When we meet up with these forces of darkness and terror, let’s counter with a bombardment of Goodness and Beauty. Let’s focus on our beautiful lost souls and how we can elevate their spirits and memorialize them so their lives live on.

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Mr. Rogers

Let’s shine the light on the helpers as we hold the hands of our sufferers through the darkness. For then we will all come through intact.
