Post Traumatic _______

We’ve all heard of post traumatic stress.  But have you ever heard of post traumatic growth??  When I heard ‘my guy’ say this, I got so excited.  I mean this really speaks to me.  I don’t know if Tony Robbins coined this term or not, but I just heard him express this in a segment on holiday stress tips on the Today show.   You can be sure it’s not the typical, annual de-stress tips.

This post traumatic growth goes perfectly with my theme here of rebuilding and transcending one’s challenges/difficulties/adversities.  Do we succumb to our hardships and stay down from them or do we  rise above and beyond them and grow up and out?

After we go through the natural feelings of sadness and grief, do we say, “I will not let this defeat me”!

As Tony Robbins says, can we “use the stress” instead of the “stress using us”?  Can we utilize our stress and difficulties towards a greater good, towards giving, towards making lemonade out of lemons?

Can we grow up with an even stronger backbone and perhaps stand even taller having gone through our personal hardships?

I look back on some of my personal challenges and although going through them was by no means an easy feat, I feel I’ve evolved into a much more life-loving and passionate person because of what I’ve been through.  In light of this new way of wording it, I can say that I’ve experienced post traumatic growth (PTG).

What about you?  Does this concept of PTG ring for you?  I’d love some share-outs here.

Here’s the video of Tony Robbins on the Today show, Nov. 27th.
